RCMP Deal With Two Major Collisions Around Lethbridge Monday -- Including A Fatal

LETHBRIDGE:  ***Up-Dated material.

RCMP dealt with highway carnage Monday morning.

Just before 11:00, officers were called west of the city.   The incident began when an eastbound SUV driven by a 52-year old Airdrie man collided with a Mack semi unit  that was turning south onto Highway-3.

The SUV driver was unharmed at that point, got out of his vehicle was stranding beside the SUV, when a Peterbilt semi collided with him, causing the fatality.

At this point, a third semi, a Kenworth, collided with the first semi, pushing it into the ditch.  None of the semi drivers were injured.

No names have been released as the investigation continues.

The Highway-3 collision was not the first of the day.  About 9:00, RCMP shut down Highway-845 north of Coaldale.  They needed about 3-hours to untangled a collision involving more than a dozen vehicles, about 5-kilometres north of the town.  A south-bound semi hit ice and slid into the north-bound lane, striking  another semi. A string of vehicles coming from both directions then ran into the semis.

While most injuries were minor, one man was sent to hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and another man suffered serious injures.

At the time of both incidents, roads were slick and fog had significantly reduced visibility. RCMP continue to investigate and what to hear from anyone who witnessed either collision. Please contact the Lethbridge RCMP detachment at 403-329-5080.
