Preliminary Inquiry Into Shaughnessy Murder Case

LETHBRIDGE:  No plea entred yet but, the accused has chosen trial by Judge and Jury, in a second degree murder case in Shaughnessy.

A preliminary inquiry has been set for 29-year old Luis Alfonso Ochoa-Gamez, of Cuauhteoc, Mexico.  He faces the second degree charge in connection with the shooting death of 24-year old Mauro Hernandez-Renteria in Shaugnessy on October 13th, 2010. RCMP believe the killing was over a drug dispute.

Gamez fled Canada and was arrested for an immigration violation when he tried to cross into Mexico from the U-S on October 18th of 2010.  He was extradited back to Canada from the U-S this past August.

Gamez hasn't entered a plea but, has elected trial by judge and Jury.  On Tuesday, Gamez was denied bail and remains in custody until his preliminary inquiry May 22nd to the 25th, 2012.
