Trial Cancelled And Resolution Expected In Cornerstone Funeral Home Fraud Case

LETHBRIDGE:  There's a change of plans in the fraud case involving the owners of Cornerstone Funeral home.

On April 18th of this year, Ralph and Faith Zentner  pleaded not guilty on all charges and were expected to begin a trial on January 9th.  However, the case was called forward in Provincial Court Wednesday morning.  The trial was cancelled with the case set, instead, for resolution  on January 18th.

The Zentners are accused of charging customers for  caskets and then using cheaper trays for cremations. There is also a charge of "causing an indignity to a human body", relating to one case where the finger of a decedent was intentionally cut off to remove a ring.

The alleged incidents occurred between 1996 to 2006 and involve at least 47 separate cases.
