Triple Digit Internal Theft Leads To Charges Against City Woman

LETHBRIDGE:  Regional police have charged a city woman in a case of internal theft worth more than $225,000.

Brandi Elan Van-Den Hengel, aged 30, faces three-counts each of theft over $5,000 and uttering a forged document, as well as one count of fraud over $5,000.

It's alleged that between October of 2009 and August, 2011, Van Den Hengel stole more than six-dozen cheques for personal gain from three businesses (Mosaic Molding Industries, Providence Home Owners Association which is a non-profit organization and Design Sings Inc.) while she worked for them as a bookkeeper.

Most of the cheques had forged signatures and some were made out to other businesses, but were deposited in the suspect's accounts. Van Den Hengel makes her first court appearance on January 6th.
