Province Not Worried About Bear and Logging Combination in Castle Mountain Area

CASTLE MOUNTAIN AREA: As logging trucks prepare to go into the Castle Mountain area near Pincher Creek and the Crowsnest Pass, the Sierra Club is raising concerns about how it will impact the grizzly bear population.

Sustainable Resource Development Minister Frank Oberle stated that he's not too worried about the situation, saying commercial logging has been going on there for the last 50-years with a minimal impact on the local wildlife.

He added that there greatest concern revolves around possible encounters between bears and people in the area, leading him to explain that they will monitor the situation to try and reduce the risks and catch any problems early.
