New Superintendent Takes Over At Waterton -- And A Few Other Locales
WATERTON LAKES: It's a big enough job looking after one national historic site but, the new
Field Unit Superintendent for Waterton Lakes National Park will be overseeing
much more than that. Fortunately, he has the experience.
Ifan Thomas (if you ever get to meet him, his first name is pronounced
EEvan), will head the Parks Canada team responsible for managing not only Waterton
Lakes Park, but also the Bar-U Ranch National Historic Site and other national
historic sites around southern Alberta.
Thomas has 26-years experience with Parks Canada and before moving to
Waterton, had been the Field Unit Superintendent for the Western Arctic, which
included Aulavik, Ivvavik and Tuktuk Nogait National Parks and two other
In his new position, Thomas is responsible for the stewardship of the
southern Alberta sites, protection of their ecological and commemorative
integrity, and for creating and promoting meaningful visitor experience
opportunities. He will also lead the Field Unit business plan, and participate
on various local, regional and national committees.
