Crown Seeking Long Term Offender Status for Lethbridge Man Caught with Child Porn
LETHBRIDGE: A hearing date will be set March 25th for Patrick Bryan Ryckman, who is also awaiting a sentence on child porn charges.
The hearing will allow the court to determine whether or not Ryckman should be labelled a Long Term Offender (LTO), which could mean 10-years of supervision after his eventual release from custody.
The LTO designation was developed for many sexual and violent offenders who don't meet the criteria for a dangerous offender designation, but are considered a high risk to re-offend.
Last May Ryckman pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography, after a memory stick containing child porn was found in a University of Lethbridge computer lab in 2009. When he came in to claim the device he was taken into custody.
