Lethbridge Construction Hammers Increase In New Home Starts
LETHBRIDGE: After positive jobless numbers, another economic boost came out Friday, with
housing starts up in February for many cities. Canada Mortgage and Housing
reported an 18.4 per cent rise in urban starts, especially in multiple-unit
dwellings such as condos and apartments.
In Lethbridge, February housing starts were up 37% from January but, mostly
because of a jump in single detached home starts. There were 44 single family
starts in February, compared to 33 in January.
For the first two months of the year, housing starts are up 49% over the same
time last year. Of the total 101 new home starts so far,75 are single detached
and 26 fall under the category of multi-unit starts.
