Dr. Harley Hotchkiss Leaves $1-Million Legacy Gift To University of Lethbridge
LETHBRIDGE - The late Dr. Harley Hotchkiss has left a $1-million legacy gift to the
University of Lethbridge to support brain research.
The gift will advance important work at the U of L's Canadian Centre for
Behavioral Neuroscience in areas such as brain injury, Dementia, Alzheimer's
Disease, early brain development disorders and stroke.
Chair Dr. Robert Sutherland points out they're facing a significant shortfall
over the next while as the government is cutting back on funding for research
universities. He says "if we're going to carry on at the level we have been or
increase our efforts in research on brain diseases, we're going to need to find
alternative sources of funding and so this comes at a really important time for
us."
Hotchkiss is well known for the many contributions he made in the area of
brain research. The University of Calgary's Hotchkiss Brain Institute was named
in his honour. Posted on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 6/20/2013 10:57:28 AM
