LETHBRIDGE: ****Up-Date as of 11:00-am
Not a great start to the first day of Spring for Ryan Enevold. The franchise owner of the
Mayor Magrath Drive Boston Pizza, is devastated and waiting to find out the cause and origin of
a fire that destroyed his restaurant early Wednesday morning. About 50-employees
at the restaurant are out of work. However, Enevold says there are plans to
rebuild.
Fire crews responded to the restaurant just before 5:00 with 15 firefighters from three
stations. Deputy Fire Chief Dana Terry stated, "We took a defence approach because it was too dangerous to go in to
fight the fire".
By 7:00, the building's roof had collapsed and fire personnel deemed the
building a total loss.
Back at the scene later in the morning, Platoon Chief Jessie Kurtz told Country 95 News that they would attempt to recover some items from
inside the building and would be pulling down some more walls to make it safe to
investigate. Fire crews will remain on scene all day.
It turns out the BP's fire wasn't the only one Wednesday morning.
Just after mid-night, fire crews were also called to the Lodge hotel on
Scenic drive, to deal with smoke coming from a second floor storage room. Two stations and 13-firefighters were able to get the fire under control.
The fire was contained to the storage room however, parts of the building
sustained water damage, when the sprinkler system was activated. The fire does not
appear to be suspicious.
