Richardson Oilseed Ltd Plans to Double the Size of Lethbridge Plant

LETHBRIDGE: Richardson Oilseed Limited is expanding its canola processing plant in Lethbridge.

The project, which is expected to take a year to finish, will begin in early 2014 and will see the facility more than double its processing capacity.

It was just last year that they finished a $15-million expansion of the processing plant, increasing its size by 40-per cent.

Richardson Senior Vice President Pat Van Osch noted that growing demand for canola oil in the U.S. and Asian markets prompted them to go ahead with the upgrade.

He stated however that while the facility will be growing, most of the improvements will be through automation, meaning it's unlikely that it will create any new jobs in Lethbridge.
