Exhibition Park Seeking $25-Million In City Funding For Redevelopment Project
LETHBRIDGE - Exhibition Park is looking for $25-million in the upcoming city budget for
their redevelopment project.
They want to build a 250,000 square foot
Trade and Convention Centre, along with a 75,000 square foot Agriplex with a dirt floor arena and livestock pens.
The total project will cost about $90-million, with $50-million coming from
Federal and Provincial Grants and $15 million from the Lethbridge and District
With so many projects and not enough cash to fund them all, General Manager
Rudy Friesen feels this project should rank high on the priority list because
"it's a project that fulfills multiple need in the community with a singular
project, you're finally getting that trade and convention centre space in this
community that we don't currently have, that brings in brand new business, and it
does so in a fashion that supports the continued growth and development of
Exhibition Park and it's community projects and programs as well."
Friesen says this project would allow them to significantly grow the size of
things like Ag-Expo and the Home and Garden Show, as well provide new opportunities for groups who rent out their facilities.
All the projects pitched at Finance Committee will be debated be members of
City Council in early May. Posted on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 12/9/2013 6:43:56 PM
