LETHBRIDGE - Police pursuits more than doubled last year compared to 2011.
there were 15 pursuits as opposed to just 7 the year before.
Inspector Kaye feels the reason for that is because the definition of a pursuit
changed in mid 2012 to include attempts to stop vehicles that flee that they
Kaye says that doesn't mean the suspect gets away, they
just use other tactics like tracking the person down with a license plate or
catching them with another unit down the road.
The information is used as an educational tool for officers. Kaye says "it
helps us knowing when and where these pursuits are occuring and these traffic
stops are trying to take place because it allows us to staff accordingly and it
lets our officers know, this is more likely to occur between 8pm and 4 in the
morning, so at 3 in the morning when you're on night shift, you need to be aware
that this may happen, so make sure that you have the licence number before you
stop the vehicle." Posted on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 4/17/2014 8:44:24 AM
