Baseball Projects To Be Considered In City Budget

LETHBRIDGE - A couple of baseball related projects will get consideration in the upcoming city budget.

The Lethbridge Baseball Collaboration Committee have asked the city to fund an indoor training facility for about $2.5 million. Representative Kevin Kvame feels this type of facility is a huge advantage to other communities. It would be a steel building with netting cages, bullpens, and pitching lanes. Kvame says "the ability to take ground balls in the off season would allow us to ramp up the training of the baseball athletes and give them the training that they need to have to be consistent with other programs in the province and beyond." The group is also interested in partnering in a Field House project that could be involved with a possible Leisure Centre.

The Committee is also asking for $2.2 million for a number of upgrades to Spitz Stadium. Kvame says "there needs to be a first aid room, there needs to be umpire access to the field, there needs to be a bigger press box for both the home media and the visitor media, it would be nice if the people controling the video board could actually see the video board, and while you're doing it you might as well tie it in to make sure there's access for the handicapped." They also plan to give a face lift to the front entrance area as well.
