Olympic Athletes Deemed "The Rio Project" Train At U of L

Lethbridge: A team calling themselves "The Rio Project" that's based out of the University of Lethbridge has their aim set on bringing home medals from the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The four javelin throwers from all over Canada have come to the U-of-L, which is home to the National Training Centre for the sport and coach Lawrence Steinke.

" The ultimate goal is to medal. In the past, I've heard a lot of people say that Canadian athletes are happy with just going to the Olympics and just making it, but that's never just been my goal, to just make the Olympics. It's to get a medal and represent our country well and to go beyond and be the best in the world" said one of the four athletes, Liz Gleadle.

Gleadle noted that our city is an excellent place to hone their skills, as they have access to great training facilities and an elite level coach in Steinke.

Leading up to the Olympics in 2016 Gleadle said they're also hoping for strong showings at events like the Canadian National Championships and World University Games.
