Average Residential Property Tax Bill For 2013 Will Increase $43

LETHRBIDGE:   City Council has approved a new tax bylaw, as required each year, and implemented a previously-approved tax increase.

Residential property tax notices will be mailed out May 10th and will include an average 2.89% municipal tax increase. When combined with the provincial education tax which the City is required to collect on behalf of the province, the amount comes out to a combined increase of $43 on the 2013 tax bill, for an average single-family property with an assessment value of $242,800.

Commercial and industrial properties, meanwhile, will see a similar 2.89% municipal tax increase, but the average overall increase will total 4.6% due to a significant rise in the provincial education tax on those types of properties.

The June 30th property tax deadline falls on a Sunday, which means payments will be accepted without penalty up to the end of business on Tuesday, July 2, 2013.
