High risk Offender To Reside In Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE: In the interest of public safety, Regional Police have issued at warning in regard to the release of a sex offender who is living in Lethbridge.

Benjamin Ross Burrows, 28, was recently released from the Bowden Institution after serving a two year sentence for possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and failing to comply with a recognizance.

Information contained in Burrows’ file indicates he is a high risk to re-offend. Police believe Burrows poses a significant risk of harm to the community, in particular children.

Burrows is required to report regularly to his probation officer and is also bound by a number of conditions including prohibitions from having any direct or indirect contact with any child under the age of 16 unless supervised by an adult, accessing the internet except for work purposes, possessing any computer or device capable of accessing the internet and attending any cyber café or establishment where the primary business is the provision of internet access.

Regional Police are issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform members of the community of the release and local residency of Benjamin Ross Burrows. Police believe there is a significant risk to public safety.

The intent of this process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action.

This information is released under the authority of Section 32 Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, RSA 2000, C.F-25.
