Health Officials Handling Surgeon Shortage at Chinook Regional Hospital
LETHBRIDGE: Local health officials are down-playing concerns about a surgeon shortage at the Chinook Regional Hospital.
Doctor Vanessa Maclean noted that it's only impacting elective surgeries and that they are fully covered for any emergency surgeries that may be required.
She added that two new doctors are coming to Lethbridge this summer to fill the void.
Maclean noted that there are a variety of reasons for the current shortage, "We've had one surgeon relocate, and we have another surgeon on maternity leave, and then we've had some un-anticipated illness. All of that coming together at the same time, we hadn't quite anticipated that."
