LETHBRIDGE: A 15-year old city youth has been charged with assault with a weapon and
uttering threats, after an incident involving a Transit driver.
On Monday, April 22nd, a Transit driver noticed a young man playing with a lighter on the
bus. When the teen exited the bus, the driver discovered one of the seats had
been burned. Then, on Tuesday, the driver saw the same teen on the bus and
police were called.
The teen became agitated and produced a folding knife, which was closed,
during an attempt to detain him. He threatened to harm the driver and then fled on
foot. Police located the subject in the area a short time later and he was
arrested without incident.
No one was injured. However, the youth, who can't be identified, has been
charged with arson to property, mischief under $5,000, assault with a weapon,
uttering threats, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and carrying a
concealed weapon. He is scheduled to appear in youth court May 1st.
