Council Begins Planning For Expected Growth In Lethbridge's Southeast.

LETHBRIDGE:  Developer interest in the south-east corner of the city has prompted City Council members to be pro-active.

Council has approved $475,000 from the city's operating budget, to plan development of the 564 hectares of land east of 43rd street, north and south of Highway-4. The money will be recouped from developers, as new neighbourhoods come on-line.

An area structure plan will integrate Fairmont and Southgate neighbourhoods with the area which has yet to be developed. It will create a framework for land uses, traffic circulation, and utility services in the future urban development.

Residents of existing neighbourhoods and other area landowners will be consulted during the development of the new area structure plan.
