NDP Leader Brian Mason Meets Local Groups Affected By Provincial Cuts
LETHBRIDGE - NDP Leader Brian Mason met with the Students Union and Faculty Association at
the University of Lethbridge on Friday.
Mason says "the government
pretends that they're freezing tuition but actually we're going to see a $200
increase for Lethbridge students here at this University as a result of that,
there's going to be a reduction of about 30 to 40 faculty positions as well, and
they're looking at closing programs." He adds these cuts are going to
hurt students, the local economy and southern Alberta.
Mason believes the royalty revenue just isn't there anymore and by refusing to
reverse tax cuts for wealthy Albertans and profitable corporations, it means
ordinary people and families are paying the price.
Later in the day, Mason was going to meet with Lethbridge Family Services to
discuss the cuts to PDD (Persons with Developmental Disabilities) and other
reductions for vulnerable people in southern Alberta.
