UPDATE: Friday Evening Power Outage

LETHBRIDGE:  City power crews worked frantically to restore power to a significant section of south and east portions of the city early Friday evening.

There was an initial power outage just before 5:20 which lasted a few minutes, in sporadic areas of south Lethbridge, affecting some traffic lights. However, at 5:35 power went out completely, impacting residents and businesses between 13th Street and Mayor Magrath Drive and from 3rd Avenue to 16th Avenue south.

Partial power was not restored until about 7:00-pm. At that time, power was still out in an area from 14th to 17th street and from 9th Avenue to 10th Avenue south.  Full power was not restored to all affected areas until 11:30-pm.  The outage was caused by an power pole transformer fire.

City crews were thanked for their hard work and residents are thanked for their patience.
