Claresholm RCMP Investigates Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision On Highway 2
Claresholm: RCMP were called to the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision, on Saturday afternoon.
Around 3:25, a Pontiac Transport minivan was driving eastbound on a gravel road (Township Road 140), approximately one mile south of Stavely, and stopped at a marked stop sign at the intersection of Highway 2. The minivan proceeded across the south bound lanes and was attempting to continue into the northbound lanes when it was struck by a northbound semi-tractor trailer unit.
The driver of the semi attempted to avoid the collision, but was not able.
The driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was taken to the Claresholm general hospital for treatment and later released.
Speed is not deemed a factor in the case, but alcohol was located at the scene and the investigation is continuing. No charges are anticipated.
