LETHBRIDGE - The tecconnect facility in north Lethbridge is now at 75 percent capacity for
its leased space.
Two new companies have moved in during the first
quarter of 2013. The facility is now home to seven commercialization client
companies who are using the centre to move their business concepts and plans
forward as well as three commercial tenants who use the centre to service their
business needs in the region.
Vice President Renae Barlow feels the
centre has been growing at such a rapid rate because "entrepreneurship is really
starting to be supported in the region and the provincial government is
supporting innovation and so there's lots of opportunities to bring it forward.
The University and the College are pushing out a lot of grads that have that
entrepreneurial mindset, over 50 percent of the incubators that are in here are
started or are employing University and College grads."
Barlow adds the goal is to get these companies up and running and provide
support, so that within two and a half years they're ready to move out into the
