Hospital Unit Reopens After Infection

LETHBRIDGE - Alberta Health Services is reopening Unit 4C at Chinook Regional Hospital to new patients now that the number of cases of C difficile infection (CDI) has significantly decreased.

The unit was initially closed on April 24th.

Steps taken during the infection included isolating all CDI patients onto Unit 4C, limiting visitors and advising all visitors to wash their hands before and after visiting the unit. AHS also limited medical and support staff access to the unit and conducted extra cleaning of the rooms and equipment.

There are currently four patients at Chinook Regional Hospital with symptoms but testing shows it was not acquired there.
