Resolution in Manslaughter Case Pushed into Next Month
LETHBRIDGE: Two Lethbridge men will have to wait another couple of weeks to deal with serious charges that are before the court.
Kelsey Shane Prairie Chicken and Brandon James Brown were arrested and charged with second degree murder last summer, as part of an investigation into the sudden death of 47-year old Michael Arthur Powell. Thursday in court the charges were reduced to manslaughter.
Powell's body was found at a multiplex along the 1200 block of 7th Avenue South on July 24th by an occupant of the home. An investigation by police determined that the victim and two male acquaintances had been visiting the home on July 23rd, and that they were involved in a dispute that resulted in Powell being assaulted.
While the matter was set for resolution Thursday afternoon, the Crown and defence lawyers for the two men stated that there were still a few details that need to be worked out. The case has been set over to June 14th, at which point they expect to wrap things up.
