BOW ISLAND: Just after 9:00 Friday morning, a young woman was killed in a train
collision at Bow Island.
RCMP were called to Centre Street in the town, where a pedestrian was
struck by a train. The 18 year girl was transported to the Bow Island
hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Initial investigation indicates that the victim was walking north-bound on
the east side of Center Street across the marked railway crossing. Despite the
activated flashing red lights, alarm bells and the train blowing its warning
horn, the victim continued over the railway tracks where she was struck by a
westbound Canadian Pacific train.
Preliminary reports indicate the victim was
wearing earphones and reading while she walked.
Bow Island RCMP continue to investigate with help from members of Lethbridge
Traffic Services- Collision Analyst Section, Taber RCMP and Redcliff
The Identify of the victim will not be released.
