Bow Island Teen Killed While Walking Across Train Tracks

BOW ISLAND:   Just after 9:00 Friday morning, a young woman was killed in a train collision at Bow Island.

RCMP were called to Centre Street in the town, where a pedestrian was struck by a train.   The 18 year girl was transported to the Bow Island hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Initial investigation indicates that the victim was walking north-bound on the east side of Center Street across the marked railway crossing.  Despite the activated flashing red lights, alarm bells and the train blowing its warning horn, the victim continued over the railway tracks where she was struck by a westbound Canadian Pacific train.

Preliminary reports indicate the victim was wearing earphones and reading while she walked.

Bow Island RCMP continue to investigate with help from members of Lethbridge Traffic Services- Collision Analyst Section, Taber RCMP and Redcliff RCMP.

The Identify of the victim will not be released.
