LETHBRIDGE - Over 2,000 delegates representing 90 percent of Canada's population attended
the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Vancouver this past
Five Lethbridge Councillors and Mayor Rajko Dodic attended on
behalf of the city.
Dodic says it was a full four days with a number of study courses and tours,
along with hearing from federal politicians like NDP Leader Tom Mulcair, Liberal
Leader Justin Trudeau and various Conservative cabinet ministers.
It was also a good chance to meet with leaders of other municipalities. Dodic
says "Red Deer called a meeting with us to discuss their integrated Fire/EMS
system and the fact that they're being asked to centralize their dispatch as
well, so we're going to hopefully be working together to try to convince the
government that dispatch should still be out of our respective communities, Red
Deer and Lethbridge, as opposed to Calgary and Edmonton."
They also passed some resolutions, one asking the federal government to have
a cost benefit analysis of all their tough on crime measures that are impacting
