U-of-L Cleans Up After Significant Water Main Break

A water main break at a U-of-L construction site adjacent to the Students’ Union Building Wednesday night, saw water move through the Library Building, into the Centre for the Arts and parts of University Hall. Water gushed down stair-wells and flooded numerous hall ways.

As of noon Wednesday, there was still no dollar figure on the total damage inflicted on the University.

U-of-L President Mike Mahon noted that while it will take quite a while to sort everything out and make the necessary repairs, it shouldn't have a significant impact on students.  He says, "While we have had to cancel some classes that were in the University Centre for the Arts as well as the library today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday), we're business as usual on campus beyond that and we'll be looking to relocate classes that would be impacted over the next while".

Some of the University email accounts were impacted by the incident as a server was damaged.  However, I-T services worked throughout the day to resolve the issues and had student email and major I-T services operational by late afternoon.

Mahon added that they're still in the process of figuring out exactly how the water main broke.

Future messages regarding this incident will be posted at www.uleth.ca
