LETHBRIDGE: Hector Manuel Morales was handed a four year prison sentence Friday morning in court, on charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and accessory after the fact to aggravated assault.
Around 2:15 in the morning on April 13th, 2010 Morales and Erick Soza drove to a north side home in two separate vehicles, following a confrontation with another individual. When that individual arrived at the scene, Soza's vehicle drove past and Soza fired three shots with a shotgun, inflicting non-life threatening injuries on the victim.
The two vehicles with Morales and Soza inside fled to Taber, where they got friends to help them dispose of the firearm and other evidence.
Morales was later stopped by police east of Claresholm and found to be in possession of $19,000 worth of assorted illegal drugs that included marijuana, cocaine and methylenedioxyamphetaine. Police also discovered a bulletproof vest, two shotgun shells, one rifle shell and $6,970 in cash.
Morales admitted to police that the drugs were his and that he collected to the two shotguns shells after the shooting.
With 26-months of pre-trial credit Morales only has 22-months left on his four year sentence.
Erick Soza was handed a five year prison term in January of 2012 for his role in the shooting.
