LETHBRIDGE - The new Capital Improvement Program was officially approved by City Council
Councillor Tom Wickersham is excited with what they were able to achieve. He
says "we weren't able to address all of the wants and desires of our community
and community groups, but I believe that this CIP program takes us into the
future and gives us a firm foundation for future development within our
community and to make our community more livable for people."
includes funding for a $55-million aquatics centre, $6.5-million to renew the
Yates Centre, almost $8-million for reconstruction and streetscaping in the
downtown and $4.5-million for amenities in the North Regional Park.
CIP also includes conditional, unfunded future commitments towards the
redevelopment of Exhibition Park and a new Performing Arts Centre.
Wickersham adds "this is probably going to cause a 1.18 per cent compression
upon residential and commercial taxes within the City of Lethbridge for the next
