LETHBRIDGE - The young Fort Macleod man who admitted to brutally murdering his mother with
an axe in 2009 was pushing for open custody on Wednesday.
The man, who can't be named as he was only 17 at the time of the murder, told
the court that he had success with programs and treatment at the Calgary Young
Offenders Centre and was hoping to move into a half way house to begin a

good progress, they were not in a position to recommend any change to his
sentence and a further risk assessment is needed.
