LETHBRIDGE: A report of a missing person on the Blood Reserve has turned
into a homicide investgiation.
On Friday, June 21st, Blood Tribe Police were notified about
a young man who had been missing since June 14th of this year.
The investigation resulted in the discovery of human remains,
believed to be those of the person reported missing. The deceased has now been
identified as 25 year old Jaimie Black Rabbit, of the Blood Tribe First
The Blood Tribe Police, in partnership with RCMP Major Crimes
and RCMP Forensic Identification Section, is now investigating the matter as a
homicide. The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy early next week to
determine the cause of death.
Investigators confirm there is an 18 year old man, who is
also a resident of the Blood Tribe first Nation, is in custody, and has been
charged with 2nd Degree Murder, as well as offering an indignity to human
The name of the accused will not be released, as he was
believed to be a young offender at the time the offence occurred.
The accused is remanded in custody, and will make his first
court appearance in Cardston Youth Court on July 4th, 2013.
