Significant Jump In Lethbridge Meetings And Conferences
LETHBRIDGE - Convention and event activity in the city is exceeding last year's
performance and is on track to exceed $10-million in direct spend impact
Last year's strength was in sporting events, and while that's
still strong this year, we're seeing significantly higher meetings and
conference numbers with larger groups attending.
CEO of Economic
Development Lethbridge Cheryl Dick says the Canada Wide Science Fair was a big
one, with an economic impact of $1.2 million. She adds other meetings
with the International Association of Administrative Professionals and a couple
of agriculture conferences have helped boost the numbers.
Meetings have brought in three times the economic impact in the first six
months of this year compared with the full year of 2012.
Dick feels this is a trend that will continue to grow with the addition of
CASA and a proposed convention centre at Exhibition Park.
