Slight Improvement In Local Jobless Numbers, Which Are Still Highest In The Province

LETHBRIDGE:  There has been a slight improvement in the local jobless numbers but, they are still the highest in the province, for the second month in a row.

For the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region, the rate slipped down to an even 6% in June from 6.2% in May. That's still substantially higher than the 4.7% in June of last year. Provincially, the rate rose to 5% from 4.8%.

Nationally, Employers pulled back on hiring in June after positive numbers in May.

Statistics Canada reported the economy lost just 400 jobs last month compared to the 95,000 new jobs that were added in May. The national unemployment rate held steady at 7.1%.
