LETHBRIDGE: 33-year old Jyi Mickell Trotter of Lethbridge was handed a one year prison sentence Monday in Lethbridge provincial court, after pleading guilty to a series of charges.
The most significant charges relate to an incident June 10th, when Trotter went to the south side Walmart with another individual. The two grabbed a television valued at $1,300 and attempted to leave the store. When the greeter at the exit asked to see a receipt, Trotter punched her in the arm and left.
Once outside Trotter was confronted by two loss prevention officers who attempted to place him under arrest. Trotter resisted, punching and kicking both officers before managing to get away.
After pleading guilty and admitting to everything, Trotter was given a total of eight months for the incident. Trotter also admitted to a pair of minor thefts, for which he was given two months each, working out to a total of one year.
It was also noted by the Crown that Trotter has a very long criminal history, mostly involving property crimes and theft under $5,000.
He will be given credit for 36-days spent in pre-trial custody.
