LETHBRIDGE - The clean-up is underway following the massive storm that hit Paradise Canyon
and south Lethbridge on Wednesday night.
The storm brought winds of 133-kmph
which flipped over trailers, brought down trees and caused significant damage to roofs
in both areas of the city.
The driving range at Evergreen Golf Centre
also took a hit. Several giant poles that hold up the netting on the north end
snapped like toothpicks, falling onto the range. Managing partner Kevin Hamilton
says they have anchors that go seven feet into the ground to provide extra
support for the poles and they were pulled right out of the ground as well.
The range will be closed for a couple weeks while they wait for new poles
that have been ordered already. They may consider opening the range to irons
only in the meantime, but that decision has yet to be made.
Another spot that suffered some major damage was Field of RV Dreams near the
airport. Sales Consultant Martin Spiegelberg says three trailers were totally
destroyed and at least six trailers plus customer units have substantial damage.
They estimate there's over $100,000 worth of damage in total.
