COCHRANE: It's a case of either a "dumb criminal', "an arrogant criminal" or both.
However, once again, if you're in the process of committing a crime, it's likely
the details that will trip you up.
Without the photos, it would be hard to
believe the extent of what an officer happened
About 5:00 on Thursday July 18th, an RCMP Traffic officer
stopped a vehicle traveling east on Highway 1 near Canmore for a traffic safety
infraction. When the officer approached the vehicle, a strong
odour of raw cannabis was noted coming from within.
A search of the vehicle revealed approximately
300 pounds of Cannabis marijuana, three kilograms of MDMA (Ecstasy) and an
extendable baton. Street level sale of the contraband would yield
over $2 Million.
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 34 year old
man from Edmonton, has been charged with two counts of possession of a
controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession
of a weapon dangerous to the public. He was released on $3000.00
cash bail to appear in Canmore Provincial Court on July 24th.
