LETHBRIDGE: After almost three years of preparation and fundraising, a groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday morning near Henderson Lake for the new SLP Skate Park.
The skate park is the product of co-operation between the city, province and community with the three putting over $700,000 into the project.
General Manager of Recreation and Culture Ashley Matthews noted that the park was designed with the help of the Lethbridge Skateboard Association, and went over who it's geared towards, "There's a wide variety of features that will accommodate the beginner skaters all the way to the more advanced skateboarders. It's going to be a great facility for all age groups and all levels of ability."
Matthews also went over their timeline for the project, "Right now the contract or the tender is out, it closes the beginning of August and we'll be taking it to city council in about the middle of August, and hopefully the contractor will be on site and start building sometime third week of August, and will take them about three months. So we anticipate sometime in November the skate park should be completed."
