Police Charge 15-Year-Old Boy With Arson

 
 

LETHBRIDGE - A 15 year old boy is facing arson charges following a fire Tuesday morning that destroyed a garage and killed a Labrador dog.

 

Police and firefighters were called around 5am to a report of a garbage bin on fire in the alley along Rutgers Crescent West. About 20 minutes later a second fire was reported in a detached garage on the same street.

 

The garage was destroyed and the family dog who was inside died in the fire. The extreme heat also damaged two other garages nearby. Damage is estimated at $60,000.

 

Witnesses reported two people were seen fleeing from the garage fire and police found a young suspect matching the description.

 

The boy has been charged with arson to property, arson to property - disregard for human life, possession of incendiary material and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. He is currently in custody awaiting a Judicial Interim Release Hearing.
