One Person Taken to Hospital After Collision at Highway 3 and 43rd Street Intersection

LETHBRIDGE: *** UP-DATE     Regional Police have charged a driver after a high impact collision at the intersection of Highway 3 and 43rd Street around 10:30 Friday morning.

Constable Wade Davidson with the Traffic Response Unit reported at the scene that the collision happened when an eastbound SUV making a left turn from the highway onto 43rd Street northbound was hit by a tractor trailer unit.

As for the condition of the those involved, Davidson pointed out that they were very lucky, "The 53-year old female driver of the SUV has been transported to Chinook Regional Hospital with non-life threatening, undetermined injuries. Her status will be updated when we have a member get to the hospital. The driver of the semi trailer, as far as we know, is uninjured at this time. He was examined by EMS and released at the scene."

Davidson noted that while witnesses did see the collision, they have not yet determined who was at fault, adding that drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been a factor.

The driver of the SUV was later charged with failing to make a safe left turn.
