Local High School Students Get Lab Experience At U of L

LETHBRIDGE - Five of the top grade 11 science students in the city have been spending time in Neuroscience and Biochemistry labs at the University of Lethbridge this summer.

It's for a six-week Heritage Youth Research Scholarship program, which funds the students work placements through Alberta Innovates - Health Services and the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

Student Patrick O'Donnell has been working with a researcher on a project that involves genetically disassembling and re-assembling a strain of e-coli bacteria to make it potentially useful in cancer therapies.

O'Donnell says the program has been a great way to gain experience with specialized lab equipment and learn from professors and students in the lab.
