City Ordered to Release Certain Information Regarding Frozen Investments

LETHRBIDGE:  It's a victory for an applicant who applied to the Provincial Privacy Commission for information into the City's Asset Backed Commercial Paper investments.

The applicant had previously asked the city for records regarding to the $30.2 Million in frozen investments. However, the city withheld sections of the minutes of City Council in-camera meetings and an Audit Committee, that had discussed the investments.

The City had properly applied for the FOIP Act's exception to disclosure of some information, which was withheld. Quoting from a new release, "Information could be withheld because its disclosure could reasonably be expected to reveal advice, proposals, recommendations, analyses or policy options developed by or for the City, or consultations or deliberations involving its officers or employees" .

However, an adjudicator determined that background information and decisions of City Council or the Audit Committee, could not be withheld and must be released.
