Oily Rags Blamed For Early Morning Garage Fire

LETHRBIDGE:  The fire department dealt with a garage fire Wednesday morning that caused about $10-thousand damage.

Around 4:00, 14 fire fighters from two crews were to a home along Queens Road west. The fire was in a detached garage and no injuries were reported.

Fire Investigators on scene this morning determined the cause of the fire was spontaneous combustion of oily rags.

Residents are reminded that when disposing of oily rags after using an organic stain, make sure the rags are placed in a non-combustible container with a non-combustible lid. Or, have the oily rags disposed of in a non-combustible container submersed in water.
