Voter ID Required For Upcoming Municipal Election

LETHBRIDGE - Voter identification is now required for the upcoming municipal election.

In the past, the City has stayed away from ID requirements because they felt it disenfranchised certain groups of people, specifically the young and old. However, the province has passed rules which apply to all municipalities saying they must ask for ID in the upcoming election.

You will need to provide something that has your name and current residential address like a drivers license, utility bill, cheque or vehicle registration card. A full list of acceptable ID can be found at http://www.lethbridge.ca/City-Government/Elections/Pages/Voter-Identification.aspx.

On Monday, October 21st, residents will elect a new Mayor, 8 Councillors, 7 Public School Board Trustees and 5 Separate School Board Trustees. All will serve a 4 year term.
