LETHBRIDGE - Animal Services are investigating a dog attack that injured a woman and
killed her dog.
On Wednesday morning around 8:15, a 59-year-old woman was walking her two
small dogs in the 1800 block of 23rd Street North, when two rottweilers ran
towards her and attacked her dogs.
While the woman was trying to protect the dogs, she suffered bite injures to
her hand and face, as well as a number of abrasions. After hearing the
commotion, neighbours rushed to help and took one of the small dogs to a nearby
yard. The dog was not injured but the woman's other small dog was gravely injured and died at a
local vet's office.
The woman later went to the hospital for treatment for her own injuries.
The rottweilers were apprehended by Animal Services and will remain
in quarantine while the investigation continues. Late Thursday morning, the owner of the rottweilers voluntary signed over ownership of the animals to animal services.
