One Man Arsenal Picked Up At Coutts Border On Weekend

COUTTS:  A South Dakota man will be in Lethbridge court in October to answer charges related to gun smuggling at the Coutts border crossing.

On Saturday, August 24th, 57-year old Rickey Paul Mackey was at Coutts seeking entry to Canada on his way to Alaska. He told Border officers that he had seven rifles and one handgun and then was referred to further examination to verify his claim.

During a search of Mackey's vehicle, officers found eight more weapons that were not declared, including three handguns and five more rifles, for a total of 16 weapons.

Mackey, from Rapid City, South Dakota, was charged with smuggling and making false statements under the Customs Act and will make his first court appearance in Lethbridge Court on October 7th.
