City Holding The Line On Water, Sewer and Commercial Waste Fees

LETHBRIDGE:    Words any tax-payer would want to hear "No fee increases for some key utilities next year".

City Council got the word Monday afternoon that expected increases in the 2014 Operating Budget wouldn't be needed.

Next year's budget called for no increase in sewer rates and a 2% increase in water rates. However, utility debt-servicing costs are lower than forecast, which means no increase for water or sewer rates in 2014.

Also, changes in the timing of some major capital projects at the Waste and Recycling Centre has eliminated the need for budgeted increases to commercial garbage collection rates and commercial tipping fees at the landfill.
