LETHBRIDGE: A 41-year old Calgary man facing charges of aggravated sexual assault in Calgary, is now facing additional charges because of alleged incidents in Lethbridge.
Staff Sergeant Ian Sanderson with Lethbridge Regional Police stated that they got involved in the case in June, after two Lethbridge women came forward, having heard Calgary media coverage surrounding other charges against John Joseph McNamara.
Sanderson also discussed how he allegedly met the women, "This is a social media communication between Mr. McNamara and all the identified victims, and they basically meet, there was encounters, aggravated sex assault charges arise."
When asked if McNamara was HIV positive, Sanderson made this comment to the media, "Not to be specific of those elements in this investigation because of course all the matters are before the court, but if there is unprotected sex with a person that knowingly has HIV, fails to notify any persons with unprotected sex, that person could be liable of the same threshold of charges."
Sanderson also went on to issue a warning to the community, "The precaution that we have issued alongside of what the Calgary police issued in June, was that all persons out there are expressly advised to exercise protection with any sexual activity with Mr. McNamara."
