Regional Police Issue Warning About High-Risk Offender

LETHBRIDGE:   In the interest of public safety, the Regional Police Service is issuing a public warning in regard to the upcoming release of a provincial inmate.

Waylon Aylmer Heavy Head, also known as Oka, 34, will be released from the Lethbridge Correctional Centre on Sunday, October 6th, after serving a five month sentence for sexual assault, assault and breach of a recognizance and undertaking. The offences occurred in Lethbridge earlier this year.

Information contained in Heavy Head’s file indicates that he is a violent, sexual offender and has been deemed a high risk to re-offend. He poses a significant risk of harm to the community.

Heavy Head will be residing in the City of Lethbridge and is bound by a probation order with conditions that he:

1. Abstain from the excessive consumption of alcohol or other intoxicating substances

2. Remain in the jurisdiction of the court

The Regional Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform members of the community of the release of Waylon Aylmer Heavy Head, AKA Oka. Police believe there is a significant risk to the health or safety of the public.

Residents are advised that the intent of this process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action.

This information is released under the authority of Section 32 Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, RSA 2000, C.F-25.
